The Chairman of Obokun Local Government, Engr. Maaroof Ogundipe, has approved, cleared and effected the payment of one-year outstanding salary arrears owed to traditional rulers across Obokun Local Government Area, bringing long-awaited relief to the royal fathers.

The payment, which covers arrears accumulated over the past year, was described by the royal fathers as a significant step toward restoring dignity, stability and confidence in local governance.

Traditional rulers across the local government under the aegis of the “Obokun Council Of Obas” have welcomed the intervention, noting that it would ease financial pressures and enhance their ability to carry out traditional and community responsibilities effectively.

Speaking on the development, Engr. Ogundipe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of traditional institutions, describing them as critical partners in grassroots governance, peacebuilding and community development.

“Our traditional rulers are custodians of culture and key stakeholders in maintaining peace and unity at the grassroots. Their welfare is non-negotiable, and our administration will continue to prioritize their wellbeing,” the chairman said.

He further assured the royal fathers that his administration would sustain prompt payment of their entitlements while exploring additional welfare support measures in line with available resources and due process.

“Our administration will continue to collaborate with traditional institutions, most especially our reverred royal fathers to ensure that we deliver on our promise of sustainable development, economic stability and peaceful coexistence amongst our citizens”.

“Our administration will not deprive our royal fathers of their entitlements rather we will improve on what is on ground and ensure payments are made promptly in line with available resources and due process”.

The chairman also used the opportunity to restate his broader commitment to good governance in Obokun Local Government, noting that his administration remains focused on transparency, accountability and the delivery of impactful initiatives that directly improve the lives of residents.

“Our commitment to good governance and delivering impactful programmes that will benefit our people is non-negotiable, we will continue to implement initiatives that will improve the lives of our people for good.”

“The council appreciates the support of the traditional councils, we are glad that they are our partners in progress and we reaffirm our commitment to working together to build a better Obokun Local Government for all.”
