A proud moment for Nigeria as the country wins a seat in Category C of the IMO Council for the 2026–2027 term — marking our return after fourteen years.
Led by the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H.E. Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola @adegboyegaoyetola , this victory crowns over a year of strategic diplomacy, global engagement and sustained advocacy.
Dr. Oyetola described the win as “a landmark endorsement of the renewed confidence the world has in Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialasiwajubat,” noting that it reflects trust in Nigeria’s maritime reforms, enhanced Gulf of Guinea security, and the nation’s ambitious blue economy vision.
He expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu for his unwavering support and thanked the international maritime community for their confidence in Nigeria.
With this election, Nigeria joins 19 other nations shaping global maritime governance — a major boost to our international profile, partnerships and investor confidence.
“Nigeria is back — stronger, ready to lead, and committed to driving safer, smarter and more sustainable oceans,” Dr. Oyetola said.
