Hon. Chief Adeniyi Ismail Oluwatosin (AIO), a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Boluwaduro, Ifedayo, and Ila Federal Constituency, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to the news of the former president’s death in London earlier today, AIO described him as “a fighter, a patriot, and a leader whose life was fully dedicated to the service of this great nation.”

“Losing a statesman of such calibre is never easy,” AIO said. “President Buhari was not perfect, no leader is, but he was deeply committed to Nigeria’s unity, discipline, and integrity. His leadership, though controversial to some, was grounded in a firm belief that Nigeria could be better through strong institutions and national rebirth.”

AIO recalled how Buhari’s military discipline shaped his stance on governance, transparency, and the anti-corruption war. “He stood for something. He may not have always gotten it right, but you always knew where he stood,” AIO added. “That kind of clarity is rare.”

He further stated that Buhari’s time in office from 2015 to 2023 was marked by hard choices and significant challenges. “From insecurity to economic pressures, Buhari’s era tested our resilience as a people. But in all of it, he remained consistent with his message, Nigeria first.”

Speaking with emotion, AIO sympathized with the former president’s family, particularly his wife, Aisha Buhari, and their children. He also extended his heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC family, most importantly across Boluwaduro, Ifedayo and Ila Federal Constituency, and all Nigerians who feel the weight of this loss.

“We pray that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, accepts his deeds, and grants him Al-Jannah Firdaus,” AIO prayed. “And may his family find the strength to bear this painful loss.”

AIO concluded his statement by urging Nigerians to reflect on Buhari’s legacy, not just the debates it sparked, but the lessons it leaves behind. “Leadership demands sacrifice, and President Buhari offered his time, health, and effort to Nigeria. Let us honour him by working toward a stronger and more united nation.”

President Buhari will be remembered for his disciplined lifestyle, austere leadership, and tireless call for integrity in public service. As the nation mourns, his place in Nigeria’s history is firmly etched as a soldier, a president, and a patriot.
