We, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) hereby condemned the recent cases of brutality, harassment, and illegal arrest of opposition party members by the Osun State Security Network codenamed ‘Amotekun Corps’ under the leadership of Mr. Adekunle Omoyele.

These extrajudicial actions by the corps are not only unlawful and undemocratic but represent a dangerous slide into state-sponsored intimidation and political persecution if not checked by the Inspector General of Police(IGP).

We find it deeply troubling that Amotekun outfit established to protect the people of Osun State has now become a tool of oppression and political witch-hunt.

Members of opposition parties have become frequent targets of arbitrary arrests and physical assault by the Amotekun Corps in recent weeks, a trend that must not be allowed to continue.

It will be recalled that Mr. Adekunle Omoyele, an ex-policeman, was indicted by the #EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry for his alleged involvement in cases of brutality and extrajudicial killings.

The appointment of Omoyele as Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps has further eroded the professionalism, moral integrity, and operational values of the security outfit.

We hereby call for the immediate removal of Mr. Omoyele as Commander of Amotekun in Osun State. His continued stay in office is a threat to civil liberties and undermines the very purpose of Amotekun as a community protection agency.

We also urge the Inspector-General of Police to immediately open an investigation into the series of illegal arrests and assaults carried out by the Amotekun Corps under Mr. Omoyele’s leadership. The Nigeria Police Force must not allow rogue elements within state-backed security units to damage public trust in law enforcement and democratic institutions.

Signed:
Hon. Adewale Adebayo
Chairman, Allied Peoples Movement (APM)
Osun State Chapter
Ex-IPAC Chairman
