Yesterday, at exactly 10:05 PM in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, men of the Osun Amotekun Corps whisked away Olaore Taiwo to an unknown destination.
I personally contacted the Area Commander, who claimed to have no knowledge of the incident.
Later, we received intelligence that Olaore Taiwo had been moved to the Amotekun Area Office in Osogbo.
Our leaders, led by Alhaji Badiru and Wale Adebayo — Personal Assistant to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy — went to the location. There, they were informed that Olaore Taiwo had been arrested on “orders from above.”
As the confrontation intensified, Wale Adebayo was also arrested. Fortunately, a member of the Amotekun Corps secretly advised us to escalate the matter to influential figures, warning that something terrible could happen to Olaore Taiwo before morning.
With no other option, we reached out to His Excellency, Gboyega Oyetola, who immediately informed the Osun State Commissioner of Police about the situation.
By the grace of God and through the Commissioner’s swift intervention, both Wale Adebayo and Olaore Taiwo were released at exactly 1:00 AM today.
When we inquired about the offence committed by Olaore Taiwo, the only response we received was: “Order from above.”
It is important to note that the Amotekun Corps reports directly to the Governor of the State.
We are calling on all advocates of good governance and leaders of civil society organisations to caution Governor Ademola Adeleke against the misuse of state security agencies to harass and intimidate members of the opposition.
