The political atmosphere in Osun State is set for a major shake-up as renowned entrepreneur and political heavyweight, Chief Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, formally enters the Osun 2026 Governorship race under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Hashim, who once served as the National Deputy Publicity Secretary of the PDP (1999–2003), also brought his political acumen to the presidency when he was appointed in 2003 as a Member of the Political Advisory Committee to then-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Beyond politics, Chief Hashim is a trailblazing businessman with over 35 years of proven success across multiple industries. He is the Chairman of Oilworld Ltd., operator of OPL 241 on Nigeria’s continental shelf, and Chairman of Transnational Energy Limited, with active stakes in Hely Creek and Abigborodo fields on OML 49.
He also chairs Bresson A.S. Limited, developers of the 90MW Magboro Independent Power Project (IPP), among other international business concerns. Widely acknowledged as principled, courageous, and visionary, Chief Hashim has earned his place as one of Nigeria’s most respected business leaders and political thinkers.
Now, he brings his wealth of experience home to rescue the PDP in Osun State and challenge the dominance of the Adeleke dynasty.
Speaking at his formal declaration, party stakeholders hailed him as “a man of timber and caliber, ready to reposition PDP for victory.”
With Chief Gbenga Olawepo Hashim in the race, the countdown to Osun 2026 has officially begun.
