As Nigeria observes Democracy Day, Ambassador Niniola, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Protocol, has paid tribute to the heroes and heroines of June 12—both those alive and those who have passed—whose sacrifices paved the way for Nigeria’s democratic freedom.

In his statement, Ambassador Niniola highlighted the lasting significance of June 12, acknowledging the fight for justice, freedom, and democracy. He celebrated the resilience of those who stood firm in the struggle, giving their all to ensure a democratic future for Nigeria.

“I salute the courage of the men and women who fought for Nigeria’s democracy. Their sacrifices have laid the foundation for the democracy we hold dear today. As we honor them, we commit to ensuring their dreams of a just, free, and democratic nation continue to flourish,” Niniola said.

Ambassador Niniola also recognized the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, acknowledging his efforts to politically and economically re-engineer the nation. His administration’s actions are seen as a direct continuation of the ideals fought for by the heroes of June 12, working towards a better future for all Nigerians.

“President Tinubu’s determination to revive Nigeria’s economy and stabilize its political environment shows his commitment to the vision of those who fought for our democracy and We are confident that his leadership will guide Nigeria to greater heights,” he noted.

He concluded his statement with a call for Nigerians to unite in honoring the legacy of June 12 heroes and work together for the prosperity and stability of the country.
