A leading entrepreneur in Osogbo and a son of Igbajo, Seyi Gbenjo has condemned the removal of Oba Phillip Adegboyega Famodun, the Owa of Igbajo Land by the Ademola Adeleke-led government.
In a press statement released to journalists in Osogbo, he tagged the actions of the governor as a panacea to the crisis which must be condemned by well-meaning Nigerians and not just sons and daughters of Igbajo.
In his words “what the governor has done in the case of Oba Famodun is in irresponsible misuse of power which is capable of making a mockery of our established culture, traditions and values of Igbajo Land. The actions of the governor only show that he lacks proper knowledge of the selection process and ascension unto the exalted throne of the Owa, it is an indication that he has been ill-advised”.
Gbenjo further stated that the reactions of the entire Igbajo citizen’s home and diaspora to the purported removal of Oba Famodun indicate that Igbajo is behind Oba Famodun and he enjoys the support of all.
He therefore cautioned the governor to return to the status quo ante to forestall peace in Igbajo Land. He stated that the removal of Oba Famodun cannot stand as it is against the traditional rites of Igbajo, moreover, the traditional rites of a king cannot be performed twice most importantly when the initial selection process was done by all chieftaincy laws of Osun State.
He concluded by charging the governor as the Chief Security Officer of the state to eschew peace and stay aware of politics of vindictiveness, he urged him to be a father to all and embrace all as he is now the governor of Osun and not the governor of a party or a fraction of the state.
